The Unblocked Project

Over the past 6 years the choreographer and movement researcher Edan Gorlicki has developed a movement research method with and for people of all ages, backgrounds and body types with and without dance experience. This method he calls LAMA, which means ‘the ability and authority to teach yourself’. Edan believes our body holds many secrets to the way we experience daily life. Through our relationship with our body we are capable of discovering and understanding many aspects of who we are and why we are the way we are.

Edan quickly became devoted to finding a way to share the experience of LAMA with the general public. The right approach is to create an atmosphere and environment where the public can feel engaged in the process of LAMA and not only passively observe. This led Edan Gorlicki to join forces with the visual artist Francesca Bardaro and together they came up with the idea of Unblocked Project.

Unblocked encourages the community to dare and explore their physicality. Through the experience of 12 participants, Unblocked introduces the learning potential between our personality and physicality raising the questions: What can we learn or gain from our bodies, our movement and our physicality? Is there a relation between our physicality and our personality? And above all, are we present?

The result of Unblocked Project will be 12 multimedial installations spread in diverse locations in the center of Groningen, created collaboratively by the local community, the choreographer Edan Gorlicki and the cross-media artist Francesca Bardaro.
